Writing in my normal sense has become difficult lately. A few months ago I discovered the world of Flash Fiction at https://flashfriday.wordpress.com/, this demanded a different skill, spinning a tale in response to a prompt within a pre-defined word count.
Being me, I like a challenge and signed up to this site, found that I enjoyed it and promptly started looking for other such sites. I now take part in Micro Bookends weekly flash comp (set on Thursdays) and occasionally Three Line Thursday which I've only just joined.
These communities are very supportive and you see a number of the same people taking part but it begins to make you feel part of a family even when you're on the other side of the world. Today, for the first time I managed to win after getting an Honorouble Mention last week. Seems I'm doing something right although now I feel I have a lot to live up to. I will however keep entering, reading and commenting. This sort of writing is a great way to hone your skills, particularly in the art of showing not telling and I would highly recommend anyone who enjoys writing to have a go. I must however, try and keep myself under control otherwise I will never get my novel (don't we all have one?) finished or start another short story!
If you would like to read my dark little tale, you can find it here at Flash Friday! Better yet, give it a go yourself.
A writer - I think that says it all.
